There is a handwritten note dated October 23, 1968, reading "This book was the property of Amelia C. S. Williamson, grandmother of the late Rev. Albert Edward Shadd of Washington, D.C. I Agnes M Shadd his widow wish to dedicate the same in memory of his deep devotion to his religious beliefs and philosophy of life."
