Cyrus Jones lived and worked in Chatham Township after he escaped enslavement in the 1830s . He bought property with his brothers Josiah and Stephen on lot 16, concession 10 and worked on the boats that ran along the Sydenham River and Lake St. Clair. By 1841 he was serving as a Private with the 2nd Battalion Incorporated Militia with Josiah. He did not sign the pay lists with an 'X.' Eventually Cyrus married Jane Smith and move to Chicago.
